Anything I should knwo before adding my name as a plantiff in class action suit?

A lawyer contact me over email, explaining that he has file a pending case against sports illustrated in respond to a very recent promotion they run. I respond to the SI promotion and now a lawyer considering me to be a plantiff. So I”m not the one creating the lawsuit-I was just asked to be one of the particpants. And I want to help since we both from Jersey but is there anything I should be concern about?

That you will probably receive little to no compensation for whatever – but that the lawyer who contacted you will make millions.

You don’t need to knwo anything.

These are rarely worth your time. Most of the time its just to force the company to make a change. If there is a monetary settlement you might get $1. Attorneys try to get as many plaintiffs on class action suits to move it to federal court or obtain larger attorney fees. Everyone gets these letters or emails.

You should not have anything to worry about. Best case, you will get a tiny part of any judgment against SI (the lawyers will get most of it). Worst case, you will get nothing. But you do not expose yourself to any liability by joining the class.
