1,. goes by the child support order on what age that says.

2. no age in divorce decree? it then goes by Alabama laws. which is this: 19 years old unless child is emancipated prior to that(you get married/die etc)

you should take him up on the college fees- that is a very nice gester on his part if you ask me. he is not mandated by the courts to pay that.

The only absolute answer anyone here can have is read the child support order. If it doesn’t explicitly require him to pay support through college or pay tuition, he probably doesn’t have to.

don’t ask your dad to read the order. he already knows what it says and likely will not tell you. contact a family law attorney in your state. some times you can find one that will give you a free consultation and see if they may be able to tell you where you can get a copy of the order yourself and may possibly explain it to you. it all will depend on what is written in the child support order. good luck.

You’re both right. He should continue paying child support as long as your continuing your education. He is in a sense if he is paying for tuition, books e.g. The real question is does it equal the $1500.00 as decided by the courts. If he pays tuition and books and it comes to $1200.00 then he is still obligated to pay the remaining $300.00. If he does not pay then he can be held in contempt of court ruling. No one goes to court for not paying child support, they go because they are in contempt of the court ruling. States may differ with regards to age but i am quite sure about the amount and the continuing education. Check with the court in your town, they should be able to give you the straight facts on it. First, child support is not owed to you, it is owed to your mother.
Ask your mother. It should all be spelled out in the divorce decree.
How long your father is required to pay child support depends on the laws in the state where the child support order originated.
In most states, child support ends when the child turns eighteen. If the child is still in high school, support will continue until the child graduates from high school or turns 19, whichever comes first.
If he agreed to help your mother pay for your college expenses, it will be spelled out in the child support order. He is bound by the order unless he goes back to court to try to modify it.

Keep in mind that once you have graduated high school and you are over the age of 18, your parents are no longer required to support you.

Ermm im not sure in the UK they stop paying when you stop getting education..but im not sure in Alabama sorryyyy

Probably 18, that’s when you’re cosidered an adult and can make it on your own.

I think that it will stop when you are 18 unless you have a court order but most of the part it will until you are 18 year of age

Have him read his divorce papers, it spells it out right there! He more than likely HAS to pay til you are 23 or graduate college which ever comes first! Ask to see your Mother’s copy or go to the court and get your own copy it’s public record!

I’m not sure. I think it’s 18 but I could be wrong.
